A town with a history.
Perched on the crest of the Mahabharat range, Tansen is located 2 hours from Lumbini and 4 hours from Pokhara, on the old Sunauli-Pokhara highway. It is a convenient stop between these two popular destinations that offers pleasant weather; a welcome respite from the heat as you climb up from the plains. Quiet and quaint, Tansen still exudes the charm of an old hill town where steep cobblestoned lanes are lined by traditional Newar shop houses and locals are chatty.

Tansen used to be the heart of the powerful Magar kingdom of Tanahun. In the 18th century, the Magars were defeated by the Shahs and Tansen evolved into a Newar trading post. Today, Tansen serves as the administrative headquarters of Palpa district.

Palpali Chhen has been rebranded under new management as as Palpa Durbar Hotel.
